June 16th, 2010 — bash

Literally days before CoD:BO held its community event in Santa Monica, EA organized its own get-together for the new Medal of Honor reboot, Tier 1.

Perennial BASH guest Jim (aka Rudedog) from FPSAdmin.com was at that event and we have him on the program to talk about what he saw down there in LA.

As a companion to this cast, we highly suggest you read the summary of the MoH Tier 1 Community event on his site: MoH Reboot Preview. It’s all you’ll need to read to get yourself ready to, yet again, take up arms in the lethal MoH universe.

See you all online!

Though EALA is doing the single-player for Medal of Honor, it’s DICE (makers of Battlefield: Bad Company 2) handling the multiplayer component. While the expectation may be for DICE to offer up Battlefield’s multiplayer with a different coat of paint, that’s not the case at all. Medal of Honor’s multiplayer certainly has elements of DICE’s design heritage, but it’s more about ground infantry combat. The battles, 12-on-12 online matches featuring special forces versus insurgents, are intense and brutal. You die quickly thanks to “faster bullets” as DICE describes it, and a lack of health packs. This is war. Good luck surviving. Read the rest of this entry »

Can a soldier be as powerful as an F-16? We find out in Ubisoft Paris’ latest installment in the Ghost Recon series.

The ability to be invisible has long been a dream of government scientists, keen to get the upper hand on their enemies. In the world of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, that dream has become a reality. Cloaking devices that distort light, mechanical exoskeletons that double strength, and modular assault rifles that adapt to any situation are just some of the high-tech devices that developer Ubisoft Paris has included in its new squad-based third-person shooter. “War has changed,” according to producer Jean Bernard Jacon, who claims that “the soldier of the future is an F-16 on legs.” From our first look at the game, it’s clear that Jacon’s description isn’t far off the mark. These soldiers pack a serious amount of heat, and they mean business.

March 4 (Bloomberg) — Activision Blizzard Inc. was sued by the executives who created the “Call of Duty” video-game franchise over claims the company used “false” insubordination charges to fire them and avoid paying royalties.

Jason West and Vince Zampella, who co-founded Activision’s Infinity Ward studio, sued the company in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, claiming breach of contract and wrongful termination. They seek at least $36 million and control over “Modern Warfare,” a subset of the “Call of Duty” combat games, according to a copy of the complaint. Read the rest of this entry »
