Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

My Brief Modern Warfare 3 review

So we get a free weekend of the game, and I decide to roll the dice and give it a go.  After long hours of finally getting it off steam I'm all set to play.  I jump into the game and I'm off, controls are very cod standard, so getting into the game was quick.  Once I'm into the game, I'm reminded there are dedicated servers, however there is not anti-cheat on those, so I'm not gonna bother.  I jump into a normal p2p game of team death match, yikes man yikes.  Ok graphics are super dated, Call of Duty Blackops blew this away, and battlefield 3, not even close men.  Game play was ridiculous, I ended up going 12-3, however every 2 seconds someone was doing something with planes or copters and a whole s*itload of other things.  Maps are smallest things I've ever played on, about the size of a small indoor stadium, again graphics on maps are very dated.

I find it hard to believe people blindly bought this game, I mean wow, it is a screwfest out there in the gaming world, but this is one of the biggest screwfests I've seen to date.  I can honestly say I would be about 1/2 sick if I had bought this game....correction I would be fully sick.  I think most console players must be lemmings to continue to shell out money for this crap.  And how this outsold BF3 is absolutly beyond my understanding.

In closing, give it a try, its free weekend, and as long as you don't mind wasting some time while it downloads, you should be treated to one of the biggest crap shoots in gaming history.

Activision Confirms New Call of Duty Game in 2012

ign

During its 4th Quarter earnings call today, Activision confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be coming in 2012.

This comes as no surprise since the franchise has seen new titles annually and Modern Warfare 3 has made over a billion dollars. Still, this marks the first time that Activision has plainly stated that a new Call of Duty game will be released this year.

No information on the title was revealed. Previously, reports suggested that Activision may be prepping Black Ops 2, though that hasn't been confirmed. Sledgehammer has been hiring for a new Call of Duty game, and Infinity Ward is working on a next-gen Call of Duty.

More information from Activision's earnings call will be coming shortly.

Call of Duty Elite might not make it to PC

pcgamer

Remember the Call of Duty social network, matchmaking and stat-tracking service, Call of Duty Elite? The one that was available on Xbox and PS3 at Modern Warfare 3′s launch? The one that Activision described as a “necessity” for games? It might not make it to PC.

Beachhead Studio head Chacko Sonny implied that we were getting it a few weeks ago, abeit later than the console kids: “We’re as committed as ever to the PC, but the need to ensure a safe PC environment is greater than ever,” he said. “It’s really extensive. We need more time to get there, so Elite on PC will not launch on Day 1. We’re working our butts off to make it happen, but we won’t release it until we know that PC gamers can enjoy Elite as it’s meant to be.”

It seems the situation has changed. As Eurogamer spotted on the official Call of Duty Elite Twitter feed, we might not be getting the service at all. EVER.

“We are working towards a universal Elite experience but we cannot guarantee if or when a version will be available for the PC,” read a tweet posted a few hours ago. The “if” makes me suspicious.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Review

M'eh.

The problem with the continued success of the Call of Duty series is that its rhythm became familiar long ago. An endless network of trenches, Nazis and glowing TNT charges which you held 'E' in front of formed the framework for the first games and, while you could never call them bad, they did suffer from diminishing returns. Fans, tired of fighting the same war forever, cried out for change - what they got was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

And, for a while, that was enough. Modern Warfare kept everything we loved about Call of Duty, and brought it clapping and whooping into the modern age - but Activision's biggest problem since then is that it's fallen back into bad habits. As was the case with the WWII series before it, Modern Warfare has become tired and transparent in its lack of ambition. An endless network of city streets, Russians and glowing C4 charges for you to hold 'E' in front of form the network of the latest games.

I just spotted this on IGN (one who gave Modern Warfare a 9.0 review) - kind of ironic.

Glen Schofield of Sledgehammer wrote on his twitter account:

Modern Warfare 3 PC impressions

I killed this guy.

I’ve been playing Modern Warfare 3′s multiplayer a little bit this morning. First impression? If you sat me down in front of it and told me it was Modern Warfare 2, I wouldn’t know you were lying.

There are differences. The maps are new, and tighter. From my experiences so far, there are fewer courtyards lined with sniper-filled windows. I also know that there are Perk changes, because I’ve read about them.

But the first time I connected to a server, I was instantly killed by a helicopter I had no hope of destroying or avoiding. The game looks visually dated. The sounds and menus are all taken directly from previous games. The similarity isn’t necessarily a criticism. Modern Warfare’s multiplayer has always been a hair short of brilliant. I’ve been having a ton of fun with it so far.

In an hour of play, I reached Level 5, unlocked two new classes, and the ability to create custom classes. I’ve also unlocked a Perk, a new weapon, and a laser sight. At these early stages at least, every round provides you with new goodies.

The matches themselves are ridiculously quick. You play each round like a shark, always moving forward, unable to stop. There’s little point in slowing down, trying to ambush people, or camping. The maps flow beautifully, and if you stand still, you’re likely to be shot from behind.

I’ve been playing guys who are level 36 and above, with many more unlocks and customisation options than I have, but I’m still scoring kills in the double digits in every game. The occasional frustrating sky-missile aside, it doesn’t feel unfair.
